Scholarship Winner Testimonies

It's a great honor to receive this award from such a great event.  I would like to thank everyone who organized and was apart of this event and award.

-Zach Davis, 2012 Recipient

It is a honor to be awarded the Chance Harman Scholarship. I played in this tournament 3 times and have been touched every year. I'm amazed how a community can come together so well to support a cause like this. I am epecially impressed with Coach Harman himself and how strong and how encouraging of a man he is. Although Radford and Floyd are enemies in sports, we are all brother's and sister's in Christ. Thanks so much to the Harman family and also the Floyd community for allowing me to be apart of this blessing for 3 years. -All for God's Glory

-Timothy Worles, 2012 Recipient

Being chosen to receive the Chance Harman scholarship and being able to play 2 years in a row with my team for this event was a real honor. I am truly thankful for having that opportunity and would like to thank everybody who organized this event.

-Chris Dobbins, 2010 Recipient

It's a great honor to receive the Chance Harman Scholarship and playing in this great event with my Auburn High School teammates and want to greatly thank everybody who sets up this event for giving me this great opportunity. Thank You.

-Brad Jones, 2010 Recipient

It was such an honor to be one of the first athletes to receive this scholarship. I just want to say thank you to the Harman family and commend them on their response to such a tragedy.

-Michael McCown, 2008 Recipient

In 2008 I was the recipient of the Chance Harman Scholarship for Giles High School. The opportunity that the Harman family provides to students in the Three Rivers District is truly amazing especially when you think of the soaring tuition rates of a 4 year institution. The yearly support that this family offers to graduating seniors is beyond doubt an excellent way to commemorate their son, Chance. With the help of their Scholarship, I was able to attend and graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in Business Management (Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology) in 2010. I'm very thankful for their scholarship and the assistance their efforts afforded me. With that said, I am more thankful for the family's strong profession of faith in Jesus Christ. It's great motivation to students to have Christian examples within the public school system.

-Ben Mullins, 2008 Recipient

First off I would sincerely like to thank the people who made it possible for me to be awarded this scholarship. Because of them it makes it possible for me to attend Virginia Western Community College and still be able to afford an apartment so I may live on my own. I understand the sad nature of which this foundation was formed and the sadness it still brings down on many people each day. But out of this sad event the founders of this scholarship made it possible to turn the sadness and grief around and have a positive influence on many people's college plans and careers. People like me need the help this foundation gives and I am sure that in years to come they will help many more students find their path to success and further education.

-Michael Milovich, 2011 Recipient

It was truly an honor to receive the Chance Harman Scholarship. I felt so blessed to be chosen to commemorate Chance and his bravery. He was an inspiration to all, and a reminder to be courageous, to never give up.

-Ashley Martin, 2008 Recipient

Receiving the Chance Harman Memorial Scholarship was a great honor and I was humbled to be a recipient. Though the award has monetary value, the sentimental value of this scholarship was more meaningful to me. Knowing Mr. Brian Harman as a dear friend and being coached by him made this award much more special. I witnessed what the Harman family went through with Chance, and I saw the love and compassion that they continued to show through the whole process. It is truly a great honor for any person to receive this award in memory of an amazing little boy. I am very grateful of the Harman family's generosity and didication to this scholarship fund. The money will eventually be spent, but the sentimental value and the honor of receiving this award will never fade.

-Joey Conduff, 2010 Recipient

My name is Kathryn Stump from Giles High School and I am the 2011 recipient of the Chance Harman Scholarship. It is an honor for me to receive this scholarship in memory of someone who fought such a courageous battle and will always remain in the hearts of everyone. Thanks to the committee members for allowing me to be this years recipient of the Chance Harman Scholarship.

-Kathryn Stump, 2011 Recipient

It was an honor playing in the Chance Harman Classic two years for Glenvar. We as a team were very willing in giving up a home game for the chance to play in the tournament. Receiving the scholarship was meaningful because it was the only one that I received and it was for my athletics and not for my academics.

-Mark Johnson, 2009 Recipient

Being a recipient of the Chance Harman Memorial Scholarship was a great honor. Being from Floyd County, I was able to be a first hand witness of the Harman family. With Brian Harman being my coach and mentor, I was able to see how much faith him and the rest of his family had as they went through their day-to-day life. After losing Chance, the strength it took for them to get back on their feet is unimaginable to me, but being able to see them move forward is an inspiration to me. I have never been through anything as traumatic as what the Harman family  has went through, but I now know that nothing that is put on your plate is to big enough that God cannot handle. Being a Christian, I have always known that I could put whatever problems I had into God's hands, but over these past 5 years with the Harman family I have realized how much faith you can truly have as they have helped my faith grow stronger. I am so grateful to have received this scholarship as it will help me with school tuition, but what I am also grateful for is The Message Bible I received with the scholarship. The Message is an easy read bible that has helped me grow stronger into my faith. Again, thank you Coach Harman, Desirae, and the rest of the family. Love you guys.

-Tucker Crawford, 2011 Recipient
